UpHill we Find Art
A very interesting tour to discover Catalan art, from the 10th century until the 20th century. The Miró Museum and the National Art Museum of Catalunya are both located in Montjuïc, that’s why we call te tour “UpHill we Find Art”.
The most important European Romanesque Art collection is at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC). The quality and the variety of the “frescos”, altarpieces and sculptures is unique, it becomes the base to understand not only the Catalan art but the Catalan history too.
On our visit, we’ll show you the “Pantocrator of Taüll” the most famous of all the frescos and a quite astonishing one for its size and quality. We’ll talk about the Biblical histories that, mostly unknown painters, left on this old churches at the Pirinees. We’ll see some wooden sculptures that survived centuries of changes, fires, wars, etc jumping for a little bit to the Modern Art section to prepare ourselves for our next visit to the Miró Museum.
The Fundació Joan Miró is a personal project of Miró. Open since 1975 is not just a museum to understand the whole universe of this great artist, it is a Center of Contemporary Studies. Organizes many temporary exhibitions of 20th and 21st centuries artists. On our visit, we’ll understand his attachment to the Catalan land, his symbology full of stars, birds, and primary colors, the paintings burned by himself, a tapestry made on purpose for the museum and many more Mironian creations.
Both Museums are just 5 minutes walking distance from each other and located on the fantastic mountain of Montjuïc if you want to explore a bit more of this area we recommend you to book our Miro’s Museum & Montjuïc Hill tour. We’ll be next to the Olympic Stadium, the Plaza de España, some nice restaurants like the Martinez, El Xalet, and the nice ones inside both museums.
