tarragona Sitges private tour

Tarragona & Sitges

a full day excursion to discover the Roman legacy of Tarragona and the picturesque fishing village of Sitges. Both towns on the shores of the Mediterranean sea.

Tarragona is located about 100 km south of Barcelona.

Ancient “Tarraco” was the residence of Roman Emperor Cesar Augusto from 27 BC to 25 BC, and it became a colony in Roman Hispania reaching a population of over 30,000. In fact, in Roman times, Tarragona was larger, more important and imposing than Barcelona. The predominance of Barcelona came later during the Middle Ages.

On the way to Tarragona, we will stop to see up close an incredible structure: the Aqueduct of Ferreres where 2000 years ago it circulated the water that supplied the population. Built in blocks of stone, we can walk on it. It is a unique opportunity and it’ss worth it.

In Tarragona, we will see:

  • the remains of the robust Roman wall,

  • the Amphitheater where gladiator fights were disputed, together with shows with wild animals.

  • the Roman Circus where chariot races took place, like on the film Ben-Hur, the Circus could accommodate up to 25,000 spectators, almost the total population of Tarraco.

  • We will also stroll through the historic center of Tarragona, through its streets full of history and with a beautiful medieval Cathedral, which you can visit if you wish.

After visiting Tarragona, we will go to Sitges, a beautiful coastal town, known for its light that inspired many painters such as Santiago Rusiñol and Ramón Casas. Ideal for walking through its pedestrian streets full of history, shops, restaurants, church, and beaches. Numerous restaurants where you can taste typical Catalan specialties.

We recommended leaving Barcelona no later than 9:00 to arrive at an appropriate hour and find all the monuments open.
