Montserrat & Barcelona
A full day excursion and our favorite recommendation for anyone who truly wants to take full advantage of their stay in Barcelona.
We’ll leave around 8.30 am to Montserrat, getting there a bit before the big tour groups arrive. The trip to Montserrat is about 1,15 minutes, driving first along the highway and later on the lovely countryside around the mountain and on our way up Montserrat.
The very first thing we’ll do is to go straight to the Church before they close the entrance that takes you to the image of Our Lady of Montserrat. Once inside, you can see the beautiful Chapels along the way; your guide will explain you the meaning and the history of this unique image.
We’ll talk about the Benedictine Monks (the only inhabitants of Montserrat), and the storied history of the churches that stood there before.
In the afternoon, we will visit the highlight monument of Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia. On our way back into the city, we’ll drive through the Montjuïch’s Mountain and Passeig de Gracia one of the two most famous avenues in town stopping for a short explanation and foto at Casa Batlló & Casa Mila.
Montserrat has a few options for a quick lunch at the cafeteria or the self-service restaurant, or we can have lunch back at the city, it all depends on your preferences.
You can also combine Montserrat with the visit to Saint Ignacio of Loyola cave in Manresa. Read more about it here
